With an eye for style and design, Karin and Susan offer you an authentic insider’s view of New York.
Having travelled constantly for business, firstly in fashion and textiles and then with interiors and design, Karin first visited New York during the eighties when the city was quite different – tough, gritty and somewhat dangerous for visitors. But when her son, photographer Matthew Williams, married a New Yorker about eight years ago, she was excited to have the perfect excuse to return regularly, thrilled to explore a city rich in history, cultural diversity, design and contemporary art.
Susan and her family – along with their dog Rocco - moved to New York four years ago when work opportunities for her filmmaker husband gave them the opportunity to spend time living in the city they both loved. With their two sons studying at university and high school, work and school communities enabled them to experience the city as locals. During their time away they lived in a number of different neighborhoods in both Manhattan and Brooklyn. Sharing interests in art, music, film and food, the family made the most of the diverse and eclectic opportunities the city offers. They also made friends with fellow dog-lovers while walking Rocco in Central Park and on the streets of TriBeCa, SoHo and Brooklyn Heights.
When Karin visited, the two friends had great fun exploring the city as locals. Finding cool spots off the beaten track, they realized they had acquired a street knowledge they were excited to share with others. Their love of art, design and architecture led them particularly to Downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn where they made friends with gallery owners, artists, historians and foodies. Spending time in new cafes and up-and-coming galleries, they also toured the homes of local artists and designers. Their experience of the city was constantly surprising and stimulating.
Excited to share the city they both loved by offering a unique and personal insider’s view, Karin and Susan formed New York Curated. With artists, architectural historians and gallery directors as guides and hosts, New York Curated clients experience the city through the eyes of locals, enjoying a stimulating and exciting journey far from the well-trodden tourist route.
